Lytton Design & Construction is a family-run residential building company specialising in considered renovations, heritage restorations, architectural extensions and new homes across Melbourne, Geelong and the Surf Coast.

Founded by Richard McDonald, Lytton takes its name from LYTTON, the irrigation and grazing property in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales where Richard grew up.

It was there that Richard developed an enduring appreciation for craftsmanship, hard work and the importance of home. More than simply a place to live, a home is the backdrop to family life — shaped by the people, moments and memories that unfold within it.

Today, Lytton is run by Richard and his wife, Rebekah, who work together across every facet of the business. As parents to four young children, their understanding of home is deeply personal. They believe a beautifully designed home should not only look exceptional, but work effortlessly for the way people live — for family, entertaining, growing and the years ahead.

Richard and Rebekah bring complementary strengths to Lytton. Richard leads construction, craftsmanship and project delivery, while Rebekah works across the business, client experience and the many details that bring each project together. Their approach is personal, considered and hands-on, from the earliest conversations through to completion.

Working alongside leading architects and designers, Lytton delivers homes of enduring quality across Melbourne and the Surf Coast. From the careful restoration of significant period residences to contemporary additions and entirely new homes, every project is approached with the same commitment to detail, integrity and exceptional workmanship.

Just as important to us as the homes we build are the people who have helped build Lytton along the way.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of working alongside some incredibly talented people and watching them develop their own careers within the building industry. Former Lytton team members Lachy, Mark and Dan have each gone on to become registered builders and establish successful building businesses of their own.

Seeing people who have been part of Lytton develop their skills, confidence and experience before forging their own path is something that means a great deal to us. We believe a strong building business should do more than deliver exceptional homes — it should create an environment where good people can learn, develop and ultimately succeed in their own right.

For us, that is an important part of the Lytton legacy.
